Research Interests: Freshwater and land mollusks.

Remarks: Left his large personal collection to the University of Michigan.

According to C. Goodrich (1936) “It was a belief of his that he was the first to observe the advent of the English sparrow in eastern Michigan. He saw the bird feeding among chickens in a yard of the suburban Springwells and collected it by means of a top-heavy, muzzel-loading shotgun, with maybe some of the chickens.”
